Highlights of the job
We are hiring a Full Time, Permanent position in EPCOR’s Utility Department for Utility Worker I & II within Arizona’s Eastern Division reporting to our Fountain Hills office. Occasionally will be required to travel and work in other areas of our Eastern Division, such as Paradise Valley/Scottsdale, Anthem Tubac and our Colorado River District.
What you’d be responsible for
Repair and maintain fire hydrants, main line valves, water service lines, water mains, water meters and fittings, installation of new water services, water system flushing, water quality sampling, flow testing, traffic control, and preventative maintenance activities e.g. valve exercising and fire hydrant inspections.
Installation, maintenance, and repair of wastewater collection systems including sewer laterals, mains, taps, main cleaning and clearing blockages, roach control, and raises/lowers/repairs of manholes.
Note:
• Applicants with Vactor truck operations and CMOM program will be given preference.
• Applicants with CDL Class A will also be given preference.
• Applicants with an ADEQ Certification in Water Distribution in addition to Wastewater certifications will be given preference.
Provide assistance to Field Service Representative, meter reading and line locating when needed to backfill due to absences. Performs other work as required.
What’s required to be successful
All candidates must have a High school diploma or equivalent, and an Arizona driver’s license with good driving record.
Computer literacy and proficiency required for completing service orders in customer information systems. Ability to complete reports legibly and accurately on paper and also with Microsoft Word and Excel software. Ability to read and interpret blueprints of water distribution and wastewater collection systems, service orders, and maintenance manuals. Ability to code time card with up to 50 separate account codes. Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions and regulations. Ability to work independently when given written and oral instructions.
Candidate must have thorough understanding of water distribution, and wastewater collection systems. Must have knowledge of use of tools and equipment used in the water and wastewater field.
Ability to perform standardized water quality tests; familiarity with drinking water rules and regulations. Ability to operate motor vehicles such as dump trucks, backhoes, valve exerciser, mini-vactor unit, and similar equipment. Ability to deal effectively and courteously with internal and external customers.
There are periods of continuous stooping, bending, walking, shoveling and sweeping. May be exposed to insects, animals, reptiles, dust, pollen, chemicals, water and sewage. Must be mobile and agile to make repairs in tight places. Requires strength to lift heavy objects up to 70 pounds. Ability to perform heavy manual labor in varying climatic conditions.
This position is subject to callback, overtime and weekend/holiday emergency call outs and on call duty. There are periods of continuous stooping, bending, walking, shoveling and sweeping. May be exposed to insects, animals, reptiles, dust, pollen, chemicals, water and sewage. Must be able to tolerate extreme heat.
Minimum requirements for each level:
Utility Worker-in-Training: Must have a valid Arizona driver’s license with good driving record at time of hire. Class A CDL License required with Tanker & Hazmat endorsements or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire date. Must be able to obtain Grade 1 ADEQ certifications in Water Distribution and Wastewater Collections within one year of hire date.
Utility Worker I: Class A CDL License required with Tanker & Hazmat endorsements or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire date. One (1) year of qualifying work experience in water distribution and wastewater collection field. Class ADEQ Grade 1 Water Distribution and Grade 1 Wastewater Collection certifications required or have the ability to obtain within one year of hire date.
Utility Worker II: Class A CDL License required with Tanker & Hazmat endorsements or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire date. Two (2) years qualifying work experience in water distribution and wastewater collection field. ADEQ Grade 2 Water Distribution and Grade 2 Wastewater Collection certifications required or have the ability to obtain within one year of hire date.
